The mischievous one

I'm so guilty that I've not been posting about Kayden so here's an update :)

Since my last post on him regarding my suspicion of him having selective mutism, he has made marked improvements in his social skills. During the parents teachers meeting yesterday, Ms Juliana (his form teacher) told us that he is very mischievous and chatty in class and since the last assessment, "he has shown tremendous improvement in his social, emotional and language skills. He is very expressive when relating his experiences to his teachers and friends". You have no idea how happy that made Erwin and I :D HURRAY! He's normal!

Kayden loves to talk back now which gets annoying at times and hilarious on other occasions. When we tell him to stop being a copycat, he will retort with,"Stop being a copydog, copycow, copydonkey." etc :s His vocabulary is also astounding and we are constantly surprised by the words he knows. Example, he likes to touch the bonnet of this green car in our block and one time when he touched the car, Erwin asked him if it's hot or cold to the touch. He replies,"It's warm." :p He is starting to stop referring to himself as a third person. He used to refer to himself as Kayden this Kayden that. Now he is learning to say "myself", "yourself" etc.

Music is still very much in him. After hearing any song once, he picks it up just like that and is able to sing or hum the tune the next time he hears it. It's really amazing. Currently he can sing to Queen, Rihanna's "Disturbia" and Pink's "Rockstar" and all the other regular nursery rhymes of course. Here's a clip of him singing Norah Jones' "Don't Know Why" :p

They say the child's mind is very imaginative and I never knew how much till I had children. Kay will draw a big irregular shape with a blue colour pencil and when I asked what it was, he will say,"It's a big blue whale!" Of course it looks nothing like a whale but to him it's probably the best looking whale ever :p Looking at the picture below, I don't think you can guess what the items are, the thin green piece of playdoh is a "small roti prata", next to that is a bunch of "broccoli". The next picture shows a "big cake" and an "aeroplane" :s

One time he excitedly ran out of the room to tell me the dog and the pig and the cow and the sheep are eating his lego, I followed him to his bed and saw this:

Out and about

Apart from being my brother's birthday yesterday, it was an event filled day for me and the little one. After a morning of shoots, we went to the Mothers En Vogue fashion show upon the invitation of Jesline. She was the contact point with MEV when I shot the breastfeeding photos for BMSG (MEV sponsored the nursing tops for the shoot).

It was Dylan's first fashion show obviously and mine as well :p The event was cosy and informal and I bought 2 nursing tops and bras. Bumped into some familiar faces as well - Sunuja and Adila from Today's Parents magazine were there and a Bloom client of mine too. While pigging on the yummy chocolate cake, I chatted with the preggy sitting next to me. She's a jewellery designer and expecting her first child. Dylan (who pooped during the show of all time!), whom I so unabashedly changed on the sofa of the shopping centre (there was so baby room in the entire shopping centre! what's a mother to do?), was happily tugging on the lady's blouse while I spoke to her. The little attention seeker!

Then it was off to meet Erwin and Kayden at the Singapore Flyer for Erwin's company dinner & dance. We took a bus as the mrt station was too far away. It's Dylan's first bus ride! I still remember Kayden's, it was a journey from Punggol to Braddell :)

Anyways, I forgot to take a picture of the family while at the d&d as I was totally exhausted carrying the 9kg baby all day long in the pouch. But managed to take a nice shot of the expressway :p

Fabulous at Five

For a change, I shall let Dylan do the writing for this month's entry...

Dylan:
Hello everyone, I am 5 months old today! This month, I attended my first wedding dinner (I didn't give the newly weds an ang pow as I sat on mummy's lap and only had mummy's milk for food), had my first hair cut (by daddy), and I also had my first fall (bad mummy!). It wasn't too bad as I have an extremely hard head but it was nice watching daddy squirm as I bawled my lungs out while mummy showered me with kisses on my "ba-lu-ku".

With my constant grumbles when they eat in front of me and me smacking my lips furiously, I would think that they (my parents) would have gotten the hint by now that I am wanting a taste of whatever they are having! But no, they just continue eating and ignoring me! hmmph! During Ashley jie jie's birthday celebrations they even put the chocolate cake in front of me, just out of my reach! And they giggled and laughed as I kick my legs and wave my arms hard to try and reach the cake :( Oh man! And mummy tells me to wait another month as WHO recommends babies start solids only after 6 months. I shall be patient then.

I am not sure but I think mummy is enjoying me so much that she may want another baby! She brought kor kor and I to the hospital to visit baby Chloe and I think I detect a twinkle in her eye as she looked at the newborn. Hey mummy, I was a newborn too just a few months ago! Anyway I hear her clients telling her all sorts of old wives tales about the sex of her next baby. They squeeze my thunder thighs and commented that I have only one line across my thigh, meaning that the next sibling I have will be a brother! Mummy groans in dismay when she heard this. Then another pregnant aunty who came for shoot told mummy that if my nipples are inverted, my next sibling will be a sister but if my nipples are protruding, my next sibling will be a brother! Mummy quickly unfastened my onesie and squealed in delight to see that my nips are inverted :s Then while changing kor kor's shirt one day she noticed that his nips are inverted too and she gave another groan hahaha! Anyway I think it will just be kor kor and I as daddy is not interested in having any more kids.

My fingers and toes are now the subject of my interest. I like to hold my toes with my hands and on a few occasions I actually managed to suck my big toe, it's mighty tasty just like my fingers which I now like to look at and do some "counting". Mummy bought me some toys and I particularly love the ones that crinkle and makes a noise.

Work wise, I have been put into a flower pot, shot against a new background and tomorrow I hear Charlene jie jie and mummy saying that I will be shot with Christmas props! My work never ends ;p

Mummy will be posting some pictures soon. I am feeling fabulous at 5 months and am thankful for all the love I am getting from everyone :)

xoxo,
Dylan

Here's a sneak peek of our Christmas shoot with Dylan :)

Are all these for me?

These blue ornaments are lovely!

Hmmm, you want me to put on the spectacles again?

Alright, how do I look?

What? You want me to put on an elf suit after this?!?

How long more guys? I am getting grumpy and crosseyed staring at these balls!

Ok that's it! You are getting my super cute angry pout!

2 Weddings & 2 Birthdays

Over the weekend we attended 2 weddings and a birthday party for 2 sisters :) It was a major feat just getting the 4 of us to 1 event, let alone 3! So the daddy and I were pretty pooped.

Saturday was the wedding of my ex boyfriend G :p I was looking forward to meeting up with mutual friends and his family after such a long time. His mum and aunty called me by name the moment they saw me and I was so touched they were still so friendly to me, afterall we were together 7 years. His mum even gave me some money for my school fees when I went to Australia for my studies more than 10 years ago. Anyway I bought the Lumix to take some photos but they suck :( Can someone please tell me how do I get it to work like an idiot proof point & shoot? I was getting blurred shots all the time as I didn't want to use the flash and even at F2 there were still movement blur. Also at this setting, no one I passed the camera to could get a nice shot, arrrgh!

Here are some pix from wedding 1:

the cheeky boy hogging the cashew nuts!

the only family shot and dunno where the 2 kids were looking :S

that's Leia, my starwars crazy friend Leonard's daughter. Kayden has taken a liking to her and even on sunday night's wedding he was still asking us,"Where's mei mei?"

My baby and me :)

Just managed to get 1 picture from the party of Charlotte and Chloe and it's blurred as usual hehe but I do like the effect.

The second wedding was that of my cousin Jean. She's the firstborn of my mother's younger brother. Jean, my brother Aaron and I all grew up together under the care of my grandmother in a zinc roof house in Hougang :p My grandma who has been in the nursing home for almost a year now was there for the happy occasion. My mum brought her out from the home to attend the event and I am sad to see her so thin and haggard but she still ate quite a bit and was lucid so it was good to see. My brother and family were there too.

The only shot I looked ok in and it's blur (check out Dy's blur face haha)

My brother and his family. That's my niece Cara in the red dress. She's 5 months older than Kayden.

The Little Ting

Everyone, meet Chloe Ting :) She's the firstborn of Kayden's godma Yvonne. Does this mean Chloe is Kayden's godsister?
