The Ice-Cream Poke the Elephant

We were watching a program on tv and Kayden was reading a book when he announced to us,"The ice-cream poke the elephant!". Erwin was like, huh? Thought we heard wrongly, then he said it clearly and loudly again,"The ice-cream poke the elephant!". Our eyes went down to where he was pointing in the book and this was what we saw:

bwahahahahahha! :D
(some of my friends don't get it, so here's the explaination. the tusk of the elephant is seen as "ice-cream" by my son becoz of it's cone shape)

Some other funny moments I try and recall now...

One time my nose was runny and I asked him to take a tissue for me, he saw the mucus dripping down my nose and remarked,"Oh! Mummy's nose cry!" kekeke

Whenever he shits and his daddy is cleaning him up, Erwin will say "too much poot poot" and "damn smelly". We didn't expect K's first "bad" word to be "damn" :p Now whenever he passes motion, he will say loudly for all to hear,"Too much poot poot! Damn smelly!" We sure kennah from the Ah Gong when he hears this :s

If he sees Dylan breastfeeding, he will say,"Baby drinking neh-neh milk!". This is fine at home, but when we are outdoors, it is an uninvited announcement :p Worse when he continues with his commentry,"Mummy got neh neh, Daddy no neh neh, Kayden no neh neh and Baby got neh neh." I don't know why he thinks Dylan has "neh neh". Maybe too chubby :D He also knows that Daddy, Baby & himself "have ku ku jiao" and Mummy "no ku ku jiao" :s

As he is still quite shy in front of strangers, we will try to let him know before we meet someone that he should greet them by saying,"Hello Uncle or Hello Aunty" and not to be shy. However when he meets them, he will shy away by hanging his head and avoiding eye contact. Then when we are alone with him again he will say,"Uncle/Aunty is so shy!" *bangs wall*

17-35 - test shots

I guess you cannot take what I have posted below as true test shots as I did some post processing to the images. It takes more effort and creativity to shoot portraits with a wide angle. Obviously you have to avoid putting your subjects too close to the edges as this will cause them to distort unglamourously :p However, it's interesting when you get subjects up close yet have a sense of what's going on behind them due to the wide angle perspective.

In case you are wondering why there's no ball in the shot, it's the sand he's kicking at!

These are Dylan's feet.

Kayden asking the zillionth question for the day :s Since he turned 3, it's been why this, why that? It gets really annoying after like the 3rd question is been repeated 10 times.

Lensbaby - test shots

Some test shots with the Lensbaby.
Not easy to use, especially with kids when they move so fast it's almost near impossible to get the focus right. BUT when you DO get it, it's sweeEeet! :)

4 Eyes

Check out my little chubbster's new look! kekeke :D
I asked Charlene to help me look out for a spectacle frame small enough to fit him when she is shopping and she found these for me. Pretty toot in a cool retro way don't you think? Especially with my little darling wearing them ;) Ashley shot him while i tried to make him laugh. Then she processed the images with the Adobe software Lightroom. Love love love the colour effect for the picture above! Makes me wanna ditch Bibble and go into the Lightroom :p

layout idea copied from Char's blog, i just switched the images around.

2 Lenses & 2 Books

It's been a long time since I bought a lens to add to my small collection and today by just getting ONE particular lens (the Nikon 17-35mm f2.8), I spent a LOT! Believe me, it took a while for me to decide on this against getting 3 prime lenses (which would probably cost less). The ultimate push factor was my subjects. They are kids. They won't hang around long enough while I change between the 3 prime lenses. There! No brainer :p

Then while I was at the evil place (Cathay), the tendency to get other stuff is HIGH. The devil of a salesman will sing "oh by the way, you may WANT to get this". So there, I got the Lensbaby too kekeke :p Will try it out on Bloom shoots soon.

I can't remember the last time I bought a book that didn't have kiddy illustrations in it or wasn't a storybook. The past few years I have been buying lots of books for Kay and maybe just a few photography magazines for myself. The girls and I passed by Riceball enroute to Cathay and I bought 2 books on portraiture for self improvement :)

Note to self: Do not let today's buys become white elephants!

The Green Lantern

The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month of the Chinese calendar. This year, I forgot to get Kay a lantern (sorry kiddo) but we do have lots of mooncakes to eat!

He made a cute paper lantern in school and I brought him downstairs to parade around with it. For him, it's still fun without candles :)

I don't know why but this boy of mine loves flowers, and picking them gives him such joy. When they wither the next day he will be sad and asks "why the flower die" and we have to tell him that if he doesn't want the flower to die, he must not pick it. But he always forgets :s

Here he is, at it once again :p

Then he gave them to me and we put the flowers into his lantern.

Baby Hercules

You can turn your head from birth.

You start lifting your head off my shoulder when i burp you before you reach your first month.

You sleep on your tummy when you turned two months old.

You lift your head up while lying on your tummy atound the same time, often at such an impressive height.

You will "crawl" from the part of the bed I lay you to the top of the bed like a caterpillar.

You can sit if I place both your hands in front of your big tummy.

You can stand with support from your second month! When put on my lap, you will put your little arms around my neck and shoulders and stand on your feet like that!

You are amazing!

You are three months old today.

You are my baby Hercules :)

I love you sweetheart,
Mummy

Don't be deceived by the pair of hands holding me, I can stand on my own if I hold onto something tightly!

This is how mummy gets me to sit, with my arms infront of my tummy.

Even Hercules cries...

and gets tired...

Can you see my dimples?

How about from this angle? :p
